Varicose Veins are a medical condition that can be covered by most NY State Medical Insurance. At Mark Medical Care we are experts in taking care of your Veins.

How is the Procedure Performed?

Microfoam therapy is one of the most effective and minimally invasive options to treat varicose veins. The procedure can be safely performed in-office and you can return home the same day. Following your detailed consultation with Dr. Mark, the procedure will be scheduled.

On the scheduled day of treatment, Dr. Mark and his team will begin the procedure according to your pre-determined treatment plan that’s tailored to your unique needs. We will start by clearing your skin and then applying a local anesthetic to make sure you do not feel any pain or discomfort during the procedure.

Once the affected area is completely numb, Dr. Mark will locate the diseased vein with the help of ultrasound and insert a tiny catheter into it using high-precision injection techniques. Once the catheter is in place, the doctor will slowly inject the microfoam into the affected vein.

As the microfoam is injected, it will begin to irritate the inner wall of the diseased vein. The vein collapse will occur gradually, and healthy-looking skin will be restored. With the elimination of the targeted varicose veins, the blood flow will get naturally redirected through surrounding healthy veins.

Following the procedure, Dr. Mark will bandage the treated area. Once it is done, you can go home. You might notice some redness and swelling in the treated area. It’s completely normal and nothing to be concerned about. If there is any pain, you can take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications to alleviate it.

Post-Treatment Care

  • Following the procedure, you should wear compression stockings for a week – or even longer, depending on the treated area and how extensive the treatment was. Wearing compression stockings can make sure the treated veins stay closed, reduce pain and swelling in the treated area to a great extent, and minimize the risk of blood clots.
  • Do not engage in any kind of physically strenuous activity for 3 to 7 days following the procedure.
  • Do not lift any heavy objects (anything over 20 lbs or anything that feels too heavy for you to lift or move around).
  • Do not sit or stand in the same position for too long.
  • Make sure you walk for at least 15 to 30 minutes a day at a brisk pace every day.
  • Do not expose the treated area directly to sunlight.
  • Do not apply heated pads to the treated area. Similarly, do not take hot showers and do not sit in a hot tub or sauna. Applying heat to the treated area can affect the healing process.

Advantages of Endovenous Microfoam Therapy

  • It’s an out-patient procedure that can only take about 30 minutes to an hour. There is no need for you to be hospitalized.
  • It’s a non-surgical, non-thermal minimally invasive treatment.
  • It has a very high success rate.
  • It can be used to treat small as well as large varicose veins.
  • There is almost no downtime involved, and you can resume your day-to-day activities right after the procedure.
  • There is no risk of nerve damage, unsightly scarring or any other serious side effects that are associated with surgery. It is one of the reasons why microfoam therapy is considered a safe and effective varicose vein treatment for those who cannot undergo corrective venous surgery due to underlying health conditions or any other medical reason.
  • Microfoam produces visible results within a span of a few days.

Who is Not Eligible for Endovenous Microfoam Therapy?

If you have arterial disease or a history of blood clots, you might not be eligible for microfoam therapy. If you are currently undergoing or scheduled to undergo chemotherapy in the near future, you might not be a good candidate for the procedure. Our medical professionals can assess the severity of your varicose vein problem, assess your overall health condition, and determine the right treatment for you.

Timely Treatment is Essential for Varicose Veins

Contrary to what many people think, varicose veins are not merely a cosmetic problem. It is a sign that your veins are not functioning properly. Failing to treat varicose veins in a timely manner can lead to several complications including:

  • Chronic venous insufficiency
  • Phlebitis
  • Thrombophlebitis
  • Leg ulcers
  • Blood clots
  • Burst veins
  • Restless leg syndrome
