The Procedure

Varicose ulcers are open wounds that are very difficult to heal. They are formed as a complication of Venous Insufficiency or extreme problems of poor circulation. Varicose ulcers are also known as leg sores, and besides being very painful, these ulcers can also cause several health complications.

The main cause of varicose ulcers is the malfunction of the veins. When this happens, the blood does not reach the feet or is not returned correctly, causing suffocation in the lower organs. As a result, the skin dries and opens.

The risks of Varicose Ulcers are many, from hemorrhages and severe infections due to lack of skin protection, to complete necropsy that can end in amputations of the lower limbs. Similarly, the quality of life is affected since the patient can experience deep pain and difficulty walking.

How is the treatment for varicose ulcers?

Varicose Ulcers represent the last state of severity in Varicose Vein disease, and therefore, the treatment requires care and attention.
A timely medical consultation can prevent further complications of your health. After performing a sonogram (exam to evaluate the blood reflux in the veins), the doctor can determine the treatment for Venous Insufficiency to eliminate the pressure from veins located near the ulcer and gradually close the wound.
If you begin to feel or notice any of the following physical changes in your legs, it is time to visit a medical specialist to prevent the formation of varicose ulcers.

  • Throbbing pain in your legs, this can be a symptom of very inflamed veins.
  • Spider Veins.
  • Burning or internal itching.
  • Tired legs at the end of the day, and cramps at night.
  • Dark pigmentation and formation of dark spots on the legs, commonly around the ankles.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure can last approximately one hour, depending on the size and number of varicose veins.

Care after treatment

  • Do not lift heavy objects (over 20 pounds) until one week after the procedure.
  • Start wearing compression stockings daily, after the second day of treatment
  • Avoid direct sun exposure according to your medical provider directions.
  • Take the indicated medication to prevent possible infections.
