Intravascular Ultrasound

How is the test performed?

The specialist introduces an ultrasound catheter into the vein or artery to gather the information inside the blood vessels. The information obtained is then analyzed through images on a computer.
This procedure is performed in an Interventional Radiology room under the supervision of a specialized team that monitors the condition of the patient, who will be under local anesthesia during the ultrasound.

Benefits of an Intravascular Ultrasound:

  • Shows the amount of plaque in the arteries.
  • Does not involve radiation exposure.
  • Measures the degree of blockagevin the veins.
  • It is an outpatient procedure.

Provides accurate information on the condition of blood vessels, which cannot be observed by conventional radiology.
It is important to note that the specialist will determine if the patient requires an Intravascular Ultrasound to achieve a more accurate diagnosis of the medical condition.
